Really strong winds this week in Melbourne caused havoc and lots of roof damage. We got lots of calls for assistance with many types of roofs. There was a little pocket of St Kilda where nearly every house seemed to be hit pretty hard. The slate roof repairs we did in this little pocket were due to a TV antenna coming from a neighboring property and crashing down heavily onto the lower roof. Other properties in the area had tiles and ridge capping blown off and missing or landing on other areas of the roof. St Kilda has many old period homes roofed in slate and I have to say they stood up pretty good compared to the tiled and metal roofs. On this particular day we armed ourselves with many different types of old and new slates and just did what we could to fix or at least make temporary weather proof repairs. We still have a few repairs to do in St Kilda on slate roofs but most of them are waiting for insurance company approvals.
