Elsternwick Slate Roof Repairs Restorations and Replacements
With the heavy rains in Melbourne this week we were kept pretty busy helping out homeowners who had suddenly discovered their slate roofs weren’t up to scratch and had leaks.
I understand the worry that many people have when their roof is leaking and heavy rain is forecast – so we always try to attend quickly, even if it’s to make temporary interim weather proof repairs.
One such roof we attended to this week in Elsternwick was a well maintained Victorian home. The owners called us in when they discovered staining on the ceiling that hadn’t been there prior to this winter.
After a quick inspection of their slate roof I found quite a few areas where the slates were slipping and others that had slipped out completely and left holes in the roof.
This roof was very original with good Welsh blue slates and the only problem here was the nails rusting through and letting the slates slide out.
We carried out some weather proofing repairs and the owners have booked this roof in with us for a full restoration to avoid any further problems with their slate roof.
We always have good stocks of recycled original roof slates to carry out restorations such as this one.
If you live in Elsternwick or surrounding areas and need advice or assistance – give us a call – we’re happy to help out. John 0403022137
One thing I have noticed with many homeowners with slate roofs is that they are unaware that their roof has slipping slates.
I agree that to the untrained eye and looking from the ground, it can sometimes be difficult to see that the slates have slipped.
Probably the easiest sign to observe is that the spot where the slate has slipped from is a different color to the surrounding slates.
Look at the pictures in this article and you’ll notice the area where the slate has slipped from. It’s blue compared to the brown slates around it.
